Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiasts: Sunday, May 20, 2018
We have been invited to display at Gallmeyer Farms for their Memorial Day Saturday Celebration at The Berry Patch Saturday, May 26, 2018. The event runs from 10 am – 5 pm and is located at 3622 Darbytown Court Richmond, VA 23231. If you going to go directly to the event, please arrive before 10 am. If you are you going to go in caravan with us, you need to be at the VFW Post prior to 8 am. We will be taking the M-20 and the 5-ton. Dabney and Rob are taking their 2 ½ ton trunks and Rob is also bringing his Munga. We have not attended this event before, but it is close and a good showing will possibly get us an invitation for next year. We are getting a generous donation.
Sunday will be our day of rest in which people will be following their religious pursuits. I, of course, will be watching the Indianapolis 500 and the Charlotte 600.
Additionally, the post is sponsoring a picnic and military vehicle ride at the post between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018. The newly elected officers will be sworn in, a flag retirement ceremony will occur, and light refreshments will be available. If you would like to help, please let me know. We need drivers and set up assistance.
Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiasts: Sunday, May 27, 2018
In spite of the fact of forecasted rain, it was a beautiful day, warm, but breezy, at the Gallmeyer Strawberry Farm display. I want to thank Dabney Cowger and Rob White for helping me load the M-20 on our 3-axel flatbed trailer Friday night. Saturday morning was a pleasant surprise, Barry Conwell, Chris Wajciechowski and son, arrived Saturday morning and the four of us caravanned to Varina. It was quite a sight. We were led off by Barry in his flatbed and his beautiful M-37, followed up by Chris and his son in a beautiful Humvee, myself with the 5-ton pulling the M-20, and followed up by Rob White and son with the German Munga. We attracted a great deal of attention on this pre-Memorial Day weekend heading down 295. We received a lot of waves and thumbs up for our patriotic rolling display. We must have been a tremendous sight as we pulled into the Gallmeyer Farm. Dabney and Cathy were already on sight pitching a tent and unloading his weapons display. We were soon joined by Marjoriy and Mike Elliot with his immaculate M-38 Coast Guard Jeep and Dory. Ken Robinson brought his interesting display and research of a WWII glider navigation instructor and other interesting facts about the secret training facilities. Fritz Eley brought his M-151 Jeep and James Boykin brought his M-38. It was the largest showing we have had in a few years and a great kick off for 2018.
Tomorrow, VFW Post 10657 is sponsoring a picnic and military vehicle ride at the post between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, 2018.
