Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiasts: May 15, 2020
Our year was off to a slow start due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Several of our spring events were canceled.
Dabney, our new president, is organizing a display at the VFW Post on Cedar Lane on Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day) from 11 am – 2 pm. We are going to line up the vehicles on the strip of land between the highway and the forest. This will be a silent display without publicity or food. We will encourage people to stop and talk while maintaining the proper social distance. In accordance to Hanover County’s conditions, there will be no rides. I would like to get one or two people to help this week bush hogging the area in preparation for the display. I would like to see a big turnout. I know that everyone has been battened down for the recent outbreak, so this will be an opportunity to recharge your batteries and enthusiasm.
Wade has gotten the club’s 1942 Ford Script Jeep motor running. The compression test on all four cylinders was 150 pounds. We need a new distributor and transmission and possibly a fuel pump. We especially need parts for the transmission. I would like to plan a workday at Wade’s shop in the future. We will talk about this at the display. I have a floor pan for the Jeep, but it’s going to take a lot of work to get it welded in. I am looking for volunteers.
Hanover County is just about out of excuses as to why we can’t put our building up on VFW property. We have hired an architect and an engineer and they are in communication with the planning commission. I would love to see some dirt fly within the next couple of months.
We are still planning on having the Big Shoot this summer at Stan’s. We will get the date soon.
Hope you are surviving with this outbreak which should have given you lots of time to work and shine on your military vehicles. See you on Memorial Day.
