June Newsletter 2020

Dear Military Vehicle Enthusiasts: June 25, 2020
The 4th of July parade in Beaverdam will be a little shorter than in previous years. We will form up in the Beaverdam Baptist church parking lot 9:00 (located on Beaver Dam Road, 1 mile North of my home). Some people will be parking their trailers on my property and driving Mules and Jeeps from there. After the parade, there will be refreshments at the American Legion Post 90, also located on Beaver Dam Road.
The Big Shoot at Stan’s will begin at 9:00 am Saturday, July 18 until whenever. As usual, we will schedule shooting, trail rides, and adult beverages on site. We are making some improvements in the shooting pavilion. I will need some help the Wednesday and Thursday before mowing the lawn and preparing for the event. The club will be providing food, but bring your own beverage. It will be a great help if you will respond to this email and to let me know if you are coming so we will have plenty of food.
I have tried as many ways possible to get the county to allow us to keep our drive access to our construction site and forest ride. The county has insisted that the drive access be removed and the fox holes be filled. I have contracted an excavator and other heavy equipment to move on this project. Our builder has located a 60 x 100 foot building that is free for the removal. The cost of disassembling the building will be approximately $18,000 compared to the cost of purchasing a new building at $70,000. This will be a significant savings. This is even more important because we have had no revenue from the VFW BINGO games for the last quarter.
Randy Haase has donated an M-211 Army truck. Dabney and I attempted to tow it home, but too many of the wheels were locked up which prevented it from rolling. We need to get a few volunteers to go to Randy’s home and have a work party. Date to be determined.
Our fall events are still somewhat in limbo; however, at this point none have been official cancelled. So, Graves Mountain, Field Days, and Somerset are still on. This is subject to change.
